EXCLUSIVE VIDEO: Director Adam McKay Talks 'We The Economy'

Available on multiple platforms beginning October 21st is the new documentary anthology We The Economy, which features a series of short films about economics from a variety of different directors. The filmmakers who participated n the project include Adrian Grenier (Entourage), Catherine Hardwicke (Plush), Albert Hughes (The Book of Eli), Steve James (The Interrupters), Barbara Kopple (Harlan County USA), Adam McKay (Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues), James Schamus (Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon) and Morgan Spurlock (Comic-Con Episode IV: A Fan's Hope). 

IAR's Managing Editor Jami Philbrick recently had the pleasure of sitting down with director Adam McKay to talk about his work on We The Economy. The accomplished director discussed the new film, how he got involved in the project, income equality, using My Little Pony to illustrate the subject, casting Sarah Silverman, Maya Rudolph, and Amy Poehler as the voices of the ponies (actually alpacas), directing animation, and what he learned about income equality from making the short film.

SYNOPSIS:

We The Economy pairs world-renowned filmmakers with leading economic advisors such as Adam Davidson, founder of NPR’s Planet Money, and Greg Ip of The Economist, in order to spark a better public understanding of the economy through informed and engaging storytelling. The economic advisors provided editorial guidance to the filmmakers on 20 essential economic questions, which are the focus of these five to eight-minute films.
