EXCLUSIVE VIDEO: Writer/Director Gina Prince-Bythewood Talks 'Beyond the Lights'

Opening in theaters on November 14th is the new drama from writer/director Gina Prince-Bythewood (Love & Basketball) called Beyond the Lights. The film stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Belle), Nate Parker (Non-Stop), Minnie Driver (Hunky Dory), Benito Martinez (Bless Me, Ultima), and Danny Glover (Supremacy). 

IAR's Managing Editor Jami Philbrick recently had the pleasure of sitting down with director Gina Prince-Bythewood to talk about her work on Beyond the Lights. The accomplished director discussed her new film, finding inspiration for the lead character, what is going on with women in hip-hop, momagers, Minnie Driver's excellent performance, casting Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Noni, and the film's Romeo & Juliet theme.

SYNOPSIS:

A talented young musician (Mbatha-Raw) on the brink of super stardom struggles with the pressure of her new-found success, while a near tragedy brings her close to a young Los Angeles police officer (Parker). 

Beyond the Lights opens in theaters on November 14th.
