Opening in theaters on April 3rd is the new music documentary Can't Stand Losing You: Surviving the Police, which was directed by Andy Grieve (The Armstrong Lie) and Lauren Lazin (Tupac: Resurrection). The film documents legendary guitarist Andy Summers' life and career with The Police, as well as the bands early breakup and recent reunion tour. In addition to Summers, the documentary features his fellow band members Sting, and Stewart Copeland

IAR's Managing Editor Jami Philbrick recently had the absolute honor of sitting down with the great Andy Summers to talk about his work on Can't Stand Losing You: Surviving the Police. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee candidly discussed his new documentary, his regrets over the band's early breakup, reuniting decades later, friction within the group despite their unbroken bond, an unplanned moment in the film, how Summers almost became a member of The Rolling Stones, and the chances of The Police ever making a new album.

Based on the acclaimed memoir One Train Later by rock guitarist Andy Summers, Can't Stand Losing You: Surviving the Police follows Summers' journey from his early days in the psychedelic '60s music scene, when he played with The Animals, to chance encounters with drummer Stewart Copeland and bassist Sting, which led to the formation of a punk trio, The Police. During the band's phenomenal rise and its dissolution at the height of their popularity in the mid-80s, Summers captured history with his candid photographs. Utilizing rare archival footage and insights from the guitarist's side of the stage, Can't Stand Losing You: Surviving the Police brings together past and present as the band members reunite, more than two decades later, for a global reunion tour in 2007.
