Opening in theaters on June 3rd is the new movie from documentary filmmaker Bill Haney entitled The Last Mountain. The film chronicles environmentalist Bobby Kennedy Jr. as he attempts to help a small community stop a mining corporation from destroying the Appalachian mountains in order to extract coal. IAR's Managing Editor Jami Philbrick recently had a chance to sit down and speak with documentary filmmaker Bill Haney, as well as environmentalist Bobby Kennedy Jr. about the new film, the destruction of the mountains, it's effect on the planet, and possible solutions.

SYNOPSIS:

The fight for the last great mountain in America's Appalachian heartland pits the mining giant that wants to explode it to extract the coal within, against the community fighting to preserve the mountain and build a wind farm on its ridges instead. With Bobby Kennedy Jr. enlisted as a passionate force for preserving Coal River Mountain and the economic power of the fossil fuel industry twisting democracy to its advantage The Last Mountain highlights a battle for the future of energy that affects us all.

The Last Mountain opens in theaters on June 3rd.
