Opening in U.S. theaters on July 29th is writer Joe Cornish's (The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn, Ant-Man) directorial debut, the new English alien invasion film Attack the Block. The movie combines elements of horror, sci-fi, and comedy and in addition to actress Jodie Whittaker (Venus), and actor Nick Frost (Paul), the film features a cast of mostly all newcomers including Alex Esmail, Franz Drameh, Leeon Jones, Simon Howard, Luke Treadaway, and introducing in the lead role the movie's breakout-star John Boyega. IAR's managing editor Jami Philbrick recently had an opportunity to sit down and speak with director Joe Cornish about his new film, where the idea for it came from, designing the alien creatures, and discovering his lead actor.
