The movie is based on the true story of the 2008 Russo-Georgian war and stars an impressive cast of actors including Academy Award nominee Andy Garcia (The Godfather Part III, Ocean's Eleven), Val Kilmer (The Doors, Batman Forever), Rupert Friend (Pride and Prejudice), Emmanuelle Chriqui (HBO's Entourage), Richard Coyle (Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time), Antje Traue (Man of Steel), Dean Cain (TV's Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman), Johnathon Schaech (Takers), and Heather Graham (Boogie Nights, The Hangover).

IAR's managing editor Jami Philbrick recently had a chance to sit down with Renny Harlin to discuss 5 Days of War. The seasoned director spoke candidly with us about his new movie, the real-life events that it is based on, the difficulty of recreating a war, and why the president of Georgia wanted Andy Garcia to portray him in the film.

SYNOPSIS:

Inspired by the real events of the swift-but devastating-five-day war between Russia and the Georgian Republic in 2008, this vivid, heart-pounding film centers around a renegade American journalist (Rupert Friend), his cameraman (Richard Coyle) and Tatia (Emmanuelle Chriqui), a young Georgian schoolteacher caught in the combat zone during the first Russian airstrikes against Georgia. As the three attempt to escape to safety, they witness-and document-the devastation from the full-scale crossfire and cold-blooded murder of innocent civilians. They desperately attempt to broadcast the footage they've captured while under attack from the Russian soldiers and local mercenaries, but are met with resistance from American and international networks either shorthanded from covering the Beijing Olympics or simply fatigued by war news. The trio realize their survival is paramount, so they can live to broadcast the truth.

5 Days of War is currently playing in New York and opens in Los Angeles on Friday!
