Available on Blu-ray and DVD on December 13th is last summer's blockbuster hit film Rise of the Planet of the Apes, a prequel/reboot of the classic Charlton Heston sci-fi series. The film is directed by Rupert Wyatt (The Escapist) and begins to tell the story of how our Earth was eventually taken over by super-intelligent primates and became the futuristic, Ape-controlled Earth that Heston discovers in the original film. The movie features an all-star cast of actors that includes Academy Award-nominated actor James Franco (Spider-Man), Frieda Pinto (Immortals), Tom Felton (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1), Brian Cox (X2: X-Men United), John Lithgow (Shrek), and motion-capture actor Andy Serkis (King Kong, The Adventures of Tintin) as Caesar, the future leader of the apes revolution.

IAR is proud to present an exclusive behind-the-scenes featurette about the making of Rise of the Planet of the Apes and just how the filmmakers were able to digitally create the apes using performance capture technology. In the clip, director Rupert Wyatt, and motion-capture actor Terry Notary, who played Rocket and Bright Eyes in the film, discuss the technology they used to create all of the primates for the movie.

SYNOPSIS:

Will Rodman (Franco) is a scientist, currently residing in San Francisco, who is working on a cure for Alzheimer's Disease by performing tests on apes. The first test subject is a chimpanzee, named Caesar (Serkis), whose parents had been captured in Africa. Rodman's "cure" not only repairs brain cells but it genetically modifies Caesar's way of thinking to create a new breed of ape with human-like intelligence. Caesar learns unbelievably well, but human authority orders him locked up. However, he eventually proves to be smart enough to escape from his cage and releases an airborne-strain of the cure that advances the intelligence of his fellow apes. Caesar soon builds an army of enhanced apes in order to overthrow humanity and assert apes as Earth's dominant species.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes is available on Blu-ray and DVD beginning December 13th.
