Opening in theaters on July 12th, 2013 is the highly anticipated new robots vs. monsters movie from visionary director Guillermo del Toro (Don't Be Afraid of the Dark) called Pacific Rim. The film is a tribute to Japanese giant monster movies (also known as Kaiju) and stars an all-star cast that includes Charlie Hunnam (Children of Men), Rinko Kikuchi (Babel), Idris Elba (Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance), Charlie Day (Horrible Bosses), Clifton Collins Jr. (Star Trek), Max Martini (Redbelt), and Ron Perlman (Drive).

IAR's Managing Editor Jami Philbrick recently had a chance to speak with actor Ron Perlman about Pacific Rim at a charity event sponsored by his extremely popular FX series Sons of Anarchy, which begins airing its fifth season on September 11th. The veteran actor discussed his upcoming movie, reuniting with director/friend Guillermo del Toro, and why he did not like appearing in Pacific Rim with his Sons of Anarchy co-star Charlie Hunnam

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity's resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes - a washed up former pilot (Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Kikuchi) - who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind's last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Pacific Rim blasts into theaters on July 12th, 2013.

Season Five of Sons of Anarchy premieres September 11th on FX.
