Opening in theaters on August 31st is the new independent comedy Sleepwalk with Me from writer/director/actor/comedian Mike Birbiglia (Cedar Rapids). The film is produced and co-written by This American Life host Ira Glass, and is based on Birbiglia's one-man off-Broadway show of the same name. In addition to Birbiglia, the film stars an excellent cast of actors that includes Lauren Ambrose (Where the Wild Things Are), Carol Kane (The Princess Bride), James Rebhorn (Carlito's Way), Kristen Schaal (The Muppets), director David Wain (Wanderlust), comedian Marc Maron, and legendary musician Loudon Wainwright III.
IAR's Managing Editor Jami Philbrick recently had a chance to sit down with Ira Glass and Mike Birbiglia to talk about their work on Sleepwalk with Me. The two filmmakers discussed the new movie, how Glass became involved in the project, adapting Birbiglia's one-man show for the big screen, what changes needed to be made, breaking the forth wall, Birbiglia's experience as a first time director, the incredible cast, why veteran actor James Rebhorn is such a pro, having legendary musician Loudon Wainwright III play the ukelele, and the film's homage to the late great comedian Mitch Hedberg.

Sleepwalk with Me follows the journey of an aspiring comedian (Birbiglia) in denial about his girlfriend (Ambrose), his career, and, most significantly, his sleepwalking disorder. The more he fails to express his true feelings, the more his anxiety comes out in increasingly funny and dangerous sleepwalking incidents.
Sleepwalk with Me opens in theater on August 31st.
