Opening in theaters on January 25th and currently available on VOD is the new comedy-horror film from writer/director Don Coscarelli (Phantasm, Bubba Ho-Tep) entitled John Dies at the End, which is based on the popular novel by author David Wong. The film was also co-edited and produced by Coscarelli, along with executive producer and Academy Award-nominee Paul Giamatti (Sideways, Saving Private Ryan). In addition to Giamatti, the movie also features an excellent cast that includes Clancy Brown (Highlander, The Shawshank Redemption), Doug Jones (Pan's Labyrinth, Hellboy II: The Golden Army), Daniel Roebuck (The Fugitive, U.S. Marshals), Glynn Turman (Super 8, Gremlins), Angus Scrimm (Phantasm, Mindwarp), and introducing newcomers Chase Williamson, and Rob Mayes.
IAR's Managing Editor Jami Philbrick had a chance to sit down with writer/director/producer Don Coscarelli, as well as actor and executive producer Paul Giamatti late last year to talk about their work on John Dies at the End. The two filmmakers discussed the new movie, adapting the popular novel, why Giamatti wanted to work with Coscarelli, his unusual character, if they would be interested in actually taking the film's fictional drug - Soy Sauce, and casting veteran actors Clancy Brown, Glynn Turman, and Doug Jones, as well as newcomers Chase Williamson, and Rob Mayes.
