EXCLUSIVE VIDEO: Writer/Director Richard LaGravenese Talks 'Beautiful Creatures'

Opening in theaters on Valentine's Day, Thursday, February 14th is the new romantic fantasy film Beautiful Creatures based on the popular young adult novel of the same name. The movie was written and directed by Richard LaGravenese (Freedom Writers), and features an excellent cast of young and veteran actors including Alden Ehrenreich (Twixt), Alice Englert (Ginger & Rosa), Emmy Rossum (The Day After Tomorrow), Thomas Mann (Project X), Golden Globe-winner Viola Davis (The Help), and Academy Award-winners Emma Thompson (Howards End), and Jeremy Irons (Reversal of Fortune). 

IAR's Managing Editor Jami Philbrick recently had a chance to sit down with writer/director Richard LaGravenese to talk about his work on Beautiful Creatures. The accomplished filmmaker discussed his new movie, what attracted him to the source material, adapting the lengthy novel into a screenplay, comparisons to the Twilight series, casting his two young leads, surrounding them with award winning veteran actors, and the possibility of adapting the second novel in the series into a sequel.

Ethan (Ehrenreich) longs to escape his small Southern town when he meets a mysterious new girl named Lena (Englert). Together, they uncover dark secrets about their respective families, their personal history, and the town they live in. 

Beautiful Creatures opens in theaters on Valentine's Day, Thursday, February 14th.
