Opening in theaters on April 5th is the highly anticipated new horror film Evil Dead, which is a remake of director Sam Raimi's classic The Evil Dead trilogy starring Bruce Campbell. The new movie was written and directed by Fede Alvarez, and features Jane Levy (Nobody Walks), Shiloh Fernandez (Skateland), Lou Taylor Pucci (Beginners), Jessica Lucas (Cloverfield), and newcomer Elizabeth Blackmore.

IAR's Managing Editor Jami Philbrick recently had the pleasure of sitting down with director Fede Alvarez and actress Jane Levy to talk about their work on Evil Dead, as well as the recently announced sequel. The filmmaker discussed his new movie, how he decided which elements to include from the original series, having Easter eggs for the fans, incorporating shots from the first film as "Sam Raimi cameos," currently working on the script for the sequel, that it won't be a remake of Evil Dead II: Dead By Dawn but rather it's own stand alone movie, and how this new series actually lives in the same cinematic universe as the original trilogy, while Levy talked about not being familiar with the franchise, never seeing Evil Dead II, the tree rape scene, how her character's drug addiction helped ground this film in a certain reality, and her favorite classic moment from the original movie to recreate.
