Opening in theaters on July 5th is the new comedy-drama The Way, Way Back from Academy Award-winning screenwriters Nat Faxon and Jim Rash (The Descendants), which marks their directorial debut. In addition to starring Faxon and Rash, the film features an excellent cast that includes Steve Carell (Despicable Me 2), Toni Collette (Mental), Allison Janney (The Help), AnnaSophia Robb (Soul Surfer), Sam Rockwell (Seven Psychopaths), Maya Rudolph (Bridesmaids), Rob Corddry (Warm Bodies), Amanda Peet (Identity Thief), and newcomer Liam James.

IAR's Managing Editor Jami Philbrick recently had the pleasure of sitting down exclusively with filmmakers Nat Faxon and Jim Rash to talk about their work on The Way, Way Back. The two Oscar-winners discussed their new movie, how their experience as comedic actors and writers prepared them for their directorial debut, what they learned from working with director Alexander Payne on The Descendants, Rash's real life trauma that inspired the film, and casting Steve Carell as an unredeeming douchebag.
