Riddick

Monday, 27 May 2013 13:38

Synopsis: The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he’s encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.

The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won’t leave the planet without Riddick’s head as their trophy.

It's been just under a decade since Vin Diesel growled his way around the universe as intergalactic mass murderer and tank top enthusiast, but the full theatrical trailer for this fall's Riddick suggests that Diesel hasn't lost a sci-fi step.

The very first teaser trailer for Riddick has arrived, and it feels very much like Pitch Black.

A new image from Riddick shows the title character out of his element: rather than running around in a rain-soaked tank top stabbing people in the head, Riddick's sitting pensively on an intimating throne.

Don't worry, he may be an imperial ruler in the picture, but Vin Diesel still opts out of sleeves.

Yet Another Rain-Soaked 'Riddick' Image

Monday, 11 February 2013 13:13

There's a new image from Riddick making the rounds, one that shows that titular Furyan in the rain with a futuristic backpack and a huge blade capable of doing very ugly things to alien flesh.

Last month, a picture of Vin Diesel as Richard B. Riddick showed that this sequel will involve no small amount of rainfall.  Shortly thereafter, a still from the film kept things dry between Diesel and returning The Chronicles of Riddick actor Karl Urban, but last week, another Riddick image continued the downpour.  Now we have yet another image of the shiny-headed antihero in a torrential rainstorm.

Diesel Down and Out in a New 'Riddick' Image

Tuesday, 05 February 2013 09:37

Vin Diesel continues his one-man marketing onslaught for Riddick, unveiling yet another official image of himself as eponymous interstellar mass murderer and sleeveless shirt aficionado Richard B. Riddick.

This week kicked off with a reminder that despite his reputation, Richard B. Riddick is, in fact, a sensitive soul who loves the rain

Now, the week ends with another image from this year's Riddick, but if the earlier picture showed the Vin Diesel character's softer side, then this one reminds audiences that Riddick is also a dangerous sociopath.

He may be an interstellar mass murderer whose eyes were polished to give him night vision during years in an underground prison, but Richard B. Riddick is also a sensitive soul.  Beneath those slabs of muscle and that black tank top beats the soul of a poet, the sort of guy who likes to sit in the rain and contemplate every drop.

A new still from the upcoming sequel Riddick proves it, as the title character makes a silhouette on a rainy night and ponders some pretty lights.

Scheduled to open in theaters on September 6th is Riddick, which was written/directed by David Twohy (A Perfect Getaway) and stars Vin Diesel (Fast Five) in the title role. The film marks the third installment in the popular sic-fi series following Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick, respectively. In addition to the return of Diesel, the movie also stars series newcomers Karl Urban (Dredd), Katee Sackhoff (TV's Battlestar Galactica), David Batista (The Man with the Iron Fists), and Bokeem Woodbine (Total Recall).

IAR's Managing Editor Jami Philbrick recently had the pleasure of sitting down with actresses Katee Sackhoff and Emily Alyn Lind to discuss their work on The Haunting in Connecticut 2: Ghosts of Georgia, which opens in theaters on February 1st. Philbrick also had a chance to ask Sackhoff about her role in the upcoming Riddick, as well as her thoughts on the legacy of Battlestar Galactica. While we will run our conversation with the actresses about The Haunting in Connecticut 2: Ghosts of Georgia closer to the film's release date, we wanted to let you know now what Sackhoff had to say about Riddick and Battlestar Galactica. The fan-favorite actress discussed Riddick, her role, working with writer/director David Twohy and star Vin Diesel, being the only actress on set surrounded by men, possibly having a fight scene with Diesel, shooting guns, Battlestar Galactica, and if she ever gets sick of fans calling her "Starbuck."

It was only a matter of time before intergalactic mass murderer and tank top enthusiast Richard B. Riddick would once again stalk theaters, since Riddick wrapped production earlier this year.  But now there's an actual time frame, since Universal announced a release date for the next adventure of Vin Diesel's anti-hero.
