Mitch Glazer (whose writing credits include The Recruit, Great Expectations and Scrooged) penned and directed  the upcoming crime-drama Passion Play, which stars Mickey Rourke, Megan Fox and Bill Murray. Following a screening at the Toronto International Film Festival on Sunday, the picture was purchased by Image Entertainment. Entertainment One will handle Canadian distribution.

Adam Wingard’s A Horrible Way to Die has been picked up by Anchor Bay Films for the English-speaking territory rights.  According to The Hollywood Reporter, the deal will be in association with a new genre-oriented sales outfit Celluloid Nightmares.

Among the handful of big winners at TIFF this year when it comes to distribution, writer-director James Gunn is certainly up there.  His latest flick entitled Super spawned an all-night bidding war after a successful midnight premiere where IFC won out.  The dark comedy stars Rainn Wilson as a misfit superhero who lacks any heroic skills.  Wilson stars alongside Ellen Page, Liv Tyler, Kevin Bacon and the always badass, Michael Rooker.

More acquisition news is coming out of Toronto, as IFC Films has bought the rights to Werner Herzog's 3D documentary Caves of Forgotten Dreams. This follows IFC's snatching up of James Gunn's ribald superhero flick Super just a few days ago.

One day after bringing you a seriously spooky clip from James Wan's (Saw)  new chiller Insidious comes the news that the flick was picked up less than a day after its massively successful midnight premiere at the Toronto Film Festival. Deadline.com got the scoop that Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group purchased North American rights to the flick somewhere in the 7-figure range.
